Marisa woke up early, ran through town, took a long hike through the mountains with her parents, met a huckleberry-picking woman who gave them a tasty trail mix snack, then sat down to a delicious picnic lunch overlooking three lakes. Then...
The lakes were set to the north, south, and west of our blanket, and as I watched a curiously large mass of ant armies scurry far away from our blanket, my mother wondered aloud why there was no fourth lake to complete the aesthetic picture in all directions. I should've made the connection with the ants moving from our delicious food. I should've noticed the deer in the nearby meadow prancing way fro dear life. The ground trembled and the blanket turned a deeper shade of red as water seeped into its threads. Fish tails popped up from the soil like newly fertilized flowers and my parents and I exchanged looks of horror as our cushioned spot on the grass lost its solid certainty and began to slowly bob and move about, floating in the center of a new, shimmering lake.
